WORKING AROUND THE VIRUS – PLANS FOR SAFER REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

At the moment, we are still planning without full clarity of what will be needed in November.

These thoughts are based on what the current guidance suggests. They will be subject to adjustment as we learn more.

1.THE MAIN CHALLENGES
The main challenges to staging a play at the Unicorn in the current climate of fear are:

  • Audience Distancing
  • Financial Impact
  • Cast Distancing
  • Audience Access to Toilets
2.FINANCIAL IMPACT
The two major impacts will be:
  • Reduced Seating Capacity
  • No Drinks Sales
The major mitigations will be:
  • Lower expenditure on costumes and props
  • Play with no royalties
  • No tickets to print
3.AUDIENCE DISTANCING
The principle measures to tackle this will include:
  • Removal of Seats to aid audience flow
  • Provision of Sanitiser
  • ‘One Metre Plus’ rules (one metre, with audience masked)
  • Signage within the Buildings
  • Guidance from our Front of House teams
  • Advice to audiences about face coverings, sanitiser and distancing
  • Information collected for Track & Trace
  • A One-Way system within the buildings
4.CAST DISTANCING
The principle measures to tackle this will include:
  • Provision of Sanitiser
  • Signage and advice to members
  • Layout of Green Room to make best use of floor space
  • ‘One Metre Plus’ rules backstage
  • Use of cast on FoH jobs before, during and after the show
  • Get-in and Get-out planned around allotted tasks
  • One-Way System on and off stage
5.AUDIENCE ACCESS TO TOILETS
The principle measures to tackle this will include:

  • One-Way system, guided by FoH teams
  • One-out, One-in, guided by FoH teams
  • Reduced capacity plus no drinks sales = time to manage process
